Asia has many earthquakes. Being the largest continent, Asia has most major quakes. Sorry for the inconvenience of splitting this hub up (The second part is up). Below are some selected earthquakes that happened in Asia.
1556 Shaanxi Earthquake
On January 23, 1556 a magnitude 8.1 earthquake struck the Shaanxi Province, China. With 800,000 to 830,000 fatalities, the 1556 Shaanxi Earthquake still remains the deadliest earthquake in history.
1887 Kazakhstan Earthquake
On June 8, 1887, a magnitude 7.3 strikes Kazakhstan.
1896 Sanriku Earthquake
On June 15, 1896, a magnitude 8.6 earthquake struck near Sanriku, Japan. This earthquake was the most powerful earthquake up to the 2011 Honshu earthquake.
1905 Mongolia Earthquake
On July 9, 1905, a magnitude 8.4 struck Mongolia.
1923 Kamchatka Earthquake
On February 3, 1923 a magnitude 8.5 earthquake struck Kamchatka, Russia.
1931 Xinjiang Earthquake
On August 10, 1931, a magnitude 8 struck Xinjiang Province, China. About 10000 fatalities were reported.
1933 Sanriku Earthquake
On March 2, 1933, a magnitude 8.4 earthquake struck Sanriku, Japan. About 3000 fatalities were reported.
1950 Assam-Tibet Earthquake
On August 15, 1950, a magnitude 8.6 strikes the China and India border region or the Assam-Tibet border region.
1952 Kamchatka Earthquake
On November 4, 1952, a magnitude 9.0 struck the east coast of the Kamchatka Peninsula, Russia.
1958 Kuril Islands Earthquake
On November 6, 1958, a magnitude 8.3 earthquake struck the Kuril Islands of Russia.
1963 Kamchatka Earthquake
On October 10, 1963, a magnitude 8.5 earthquake struck the east coast of Kamchatka Peninsula, Russia.
1968 Honshu Earthquake
On May 16, 1968, a magnitude 8.2 struck off the east coast of Honshu, Japan.
2003 Hokkaido Earthquake
On Thursday, September 25, 2003 a magnitude 8.3 struck near the Japanese island of Hokkaido. This earthquake was the second most recent 8+ earthquake in Japan.
2006 Kuril Islands Earthquake
On Wednesday, November 16, 2006, a magnitude 8.3 earthquake struck the Kuril Islands of Russia.
2011 Honshu Earthquake
On Friday, March 11, 2011, at 05:46:23, a magnitude 9.0 strikes near the east coast of Honshu, Japan. This earthquake is the most powerful earthquake in 2011 and has caused significant damage in Japan and the regions surrounding the Pacific Ocean. This, so far, is the largest earthquake ever to occur near or on Japan. The tsunami is what killed most people in Japan. One person in California was killed as well. The tsunami also struck the Fukushima I power plant. More than 1000 aftershocks occurred in the time span from March 11 to July 11, 2011.
